My morning visit was canceled so work holds off until the afternoon visit. This opens up a morning that I thought was already filled with other things. So I contemplate what to do.
A chicken is in the stockpot for chicken and rice soup tonight. I guess I could shred cheese for the cheesy biscuits to accompany the soup to fill the tummies of my kids.
All of the animals outside and inside of the house have been fed: horse, steers, rabbits, chicks, dogs and cats. Now they lounge about.
I think about the garden and the progress that has been made there from a corner of the pasture to a European inspired vegetable garden. You know those things that you work really hard at and want to share them with others, but you think that even though it looks really good to you others may not think so and just wait a little longer to share it? this is one of those things....I am just about ready to share. I really can't wait.
I think about the addition of two more followers on the sidebar and it gives me a little butterfly flutter in my tummy that people like to come here and visit. Thank you for following. xo
I think about how busy life has been, but in a really satisfying way. In a get r done sort of way, a way that makes me feel very proud of the changes going on around this farm. some are still in progress and could become frustrating if I let them, but I won't.
Life is hard work right now. It is all around us. Soon we will reap the rewards tho....soon.
What projects are you working on?

around the farm :: bird watching
You know, all one needs for prime bird-watching is a pasture with manure in it and the roof of a chicken hutch. At least if you are 11 that is all you need. The farm is a-twitter with little flying creatures.
Hannah is keeping a bird journal and in it is: Robin, Starling, Stellar Blue Jay, Barn Swallow, Tree Swallow, American Gold Finch, and Chickadees.
I have been loving sitting out in the garden and watching all of the birds in the pasture myself. There was one out there this morning that walked just like it was riding on the moving sidewalk at the airport. It looked like a shore bird actually....its little legs musta been moving super fast!
Also wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our Armed Forces who have served in the past or present and their extended families for the sacrifices made on our behalf. THANK YOU!

around the farm :: chicks
Well hello friends! I Bet you thought I fell off the end of the earth right? I have been so super busy around this farm and school and the end of the year schooling of the kids. But here I am wanting to share some additions and changes going on here at the farm.
First off the bat is ....chicks! We have had chickens for years, but have been without them for the past year. I really wasn't sure that I wanted to even get them this year because of all of the other work that needs to be done around there this year. That all went out the window though when I thought of the minimal work that needs to be done to update the chicken coop.
I already took down the old fencing and rolled it up to re-use it...we will add in hotwire too to deter the chicken buffet for the raccoons. ;o)
I have to share this photo (below) with you. I was looking through photos on my laptop and came across this one that Sophie (9 years old) took. Am I the only one who loves it? boy do I!

Pink Petal Delivery
Yesterday for May Day these beauties were personally delivered with a cheerful
"HAPPY MAY DAY!"
from Sophie, Hannah and their friend Emily.
They filled Sophie's bike basket to the brim and headed out. When they came back they were full of stories of what neighbor said this and what one said that and "Mom we even got candy from two of them!"
Good deeds don't go unrewarded.

gratitude
I came across these photos of the day the rope was put back up on the tree. The girls look so carefree. And that's how it should be for these little ones. I am every so thankful for that in their lives...not burdened down with the heaviness of this world. They already know of so much devastation. Today I am thinking of the families down south that have lost loved ones, homes or both in the tornadoes that came through yesterday.
Being so mindful of my little family over here in Washington and that disaster can strike at any time...being so thankful for my family. When especially hard times hit the last thing we naturally think of is to be thankful for something...but it is the very thing that can pull us through that time...gratitude for the simple things.
Hoping you and yours are safe

Lovin those kids!
Last year Easter just kind of rolled through without much fan-fare. This year there weren't trumpets or anything exciting like that, but no-one was sick, we all got to go to church, had an egg hunt, egg dying, and yummy food. Mostly large servings of cut up strawberries, bananas, grapes and apples with whip cream on them....we could't get enough! :o)
Then some of us snuggled into the couch and watched a movie...end of a great day together being thankful for the gift that Jesus gave us.
I sure LOVE spending time with these kids.

How was your weekend....I know I am a little late in asking. ~blush~

Spring work :: pruing plum trees
Last year there were many plums mocking us from the tree tops. This spring Zack and I have been doing our best to foil the plan of the happening again. This is our first year with pruning these trees and I think we did a mah-ve-lous job! Aside from the fact that plums will be at the level that we can pick, I loved working alongside my son.
a job well done and we will reap the rewards this summer....
YUM!
chocolate cake with plum pieces nestled in it anyone?
